When winter rolls in, I usually start craving a warm weather vacation. So this past holiday season, much to the chagrin on my family back east, we booked cheap airfare (thanks, Southwest!) and headed south of the border. Los Cabos was a short two hour, direct plane ride away and with Chase Sapphire points burning a hole in my pocket, it was a no-brainer! It was actually my first time to Mexico, and I was pumped to explore a place I had heard many rave reviews about over the years.
As a newbie to the area, I learned that Los Cabos is actually comprised of two cities – Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. We chose to stay at the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in San Jose del Cabo. I’ll admit that I never used to be into all-inclusives, but after this trip, I don’t think I can go back. With seven restaurants, poolside drinks and even room service included in the all-inclusive package, we never went hungry or became bored with the selections. Our suite was the perfect size for three people, the resort was huge with charming touches of Baja flair and we loved the amazingly helpful and friendly staff.
Although I love being lazy all day at a resort just as much as the next vacationer, I wanted to get out and explore the town. San Jose del Cabo was just a short five minute taxi ride away from the hotel. It’s more laid back and less commercialized than party spot Cabo San Lucas and it had all the traditional Mexican charm I was looking for. Strolling its plaza and popping into shops is a great way to spend a few hours in the afternoon.
Five days of sunshine, margaritas and lounging by the pool made this relaxing winter getaway everything that I was hoping for. Let’s just say that my Mexico trip was a success. Now I’m itching to check out more of the country! Next on my agenda? Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta possibly? What are your favorite Mexican towns and resorts?
